Getting to Know Mrs. Daugherty
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! This will be my fifth year at Lovejoy High School and my eleventh year as a secondary educator. I graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 2011 with my degree in English Education and specialties in Spanish and ESL. I am proud to say that I completed my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at UNT in May of 2021. I have a deep love of languages and have taught EFL, Spanish, and English over the past decade.
I have had the invaluable experiences of first-hand immersion in Hispanic, Arabic, and Korean schools. My parents were missionaries, so I grew up moving around from Ecuador, to Chile, to the Dominican Republic. By the time I was in tenth grade, I had been in ten different schools; understandably, new and transfer students are near and dear to my heart. I know what it's like to be the new kid!
In 2011 I graduated with my undergrad, got married to the wonderful Tim Daugherty (who also teaches here at LHS), and moved to South Korea. We taught there together for two years, and then we made the move to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates where we taught for another four years. These opportunities have given me unique insight into cultures and languages which I am eager to share with my students.
Outside of the classroom, I love traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with my family. I have two sons, two cats, and a black lab pup who keep life interesting!
I love talking about culture, language, books, crazy foods, and every nerdy fictional universe you can imagine. Creating meaningful relationships with my students and their families is my favorite part about teaching, so please don't hesitate to reach out!
