Mike Motsney
Hello! I'm happy to be starting my 17th year at Lovejoy High School. This will also be my 27th year in education. I was an original hire to the secondary program at Lovejoy back in 2006. I've taught all levels of English during my time at Lovejoy, including AP Literature. I've been married to my wife, Amber, for 23 years and my oldest two daughters are LHS graduates (‘15 and ‘20). My youngest daughter is an 11th grader at Lovejoy this year. (Tori, Lauren, Grace)
Prior to entering the world of education, I worked in broadcast news as a News Reporter, Assignment Editor, Board Operator, and in Production. I was able to do a lot of interesting things and meet a lot of interesting people. However, after realizing that my calling was in teaching and coaching, I went back to school to finish my Education and English course work as well as student teach in Ft. Worth ISD. (Eastern Hills High School) I also spent the last half of that year substitute teaching in Ft. Worth and Grapevine-Colleyville ISDs.
I worked and coached in area private schools (Carrollton Christian, American Heritage Academy, Liberty Christian High School) my first four years in education, then worked six years at Hebron High School where I taught AP Language and Composition, English 3, as well as some 12th grade English.
I've also been a coach my entire career. My main sport is Basketball, but I've also coached Track, Cross Country, Golf, and Softball at Lovejoy. I've been the Head Girls Basketball coach, but this year I will be solely dedicated to the classroom.
In my "free" time I enjoy running, biking, triathlons (first Ironman 70.3 in '15), Peloton, collecting sneakers, spending time with my wife and kids, and trying to find the greatest coffee shops!!
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about English class this year.
