¡Hola! My name is Emily Rees and I started working at Lovejoy High School in 2019. I was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. However, I grew up in Centerville, Ohio. I attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where I graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Spanish, BS in Spanish Education, a minor in Latin American Studies, and certification for Teaching English Language Learners (TELLs). Additionally, I taught Spanish level I and level III at Ross High School in Hamilton, Ohio. Now, I reside in McKinney with my pug named Tulip. Outside of school, my favorite hobby is Pure Barre.
I found my passion for the Spanish language and culture after an immersion trip to Argentina in high school. Since then, I have also traveled to Costa Rica where I studied abroad for a semester and attended a local university while living with a host family. My favorite parts of being a Spanish teacher are that there is always something new to learn and knowing another language has connected me with incredible people around the world. From a teacher's perspective, I love seeing young learners grow as language learners and begin to understand the value of language and lifelong learning in today’s world.
The Lovejoy experience is truly unique, I am grateful to be part of such a special community. Go Leopards!
