I advise the yearbook media program and teach photojournalism, which is also called Principles of Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communications.
This is my 18th year teaching and I am new to Lovejoy. Previously I have advised and taught in Frisco ISD for eight years at Heritage High School, and in Garland ISD for nine years at Sachse High School, North Garland High School and Webb Middle School. I have advised an taught all media including yearbook, broadcast, newspaper, online and literary magazine.
I also serve as a national leader for Journalism Education Association. I write curriculum as the Leadership and Team Building Chair. I also serve as the national Journalist of the Year committee chair, and I facilitate the Aspiring Young Journalist contest.
I am a Master Journalism Educator with Journalism Educators Association. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from University of Texas at Arlington.
I was once a high school media student and still keep in touch with my high school adviser to this day. I am proud to share my passion of scholastic journalism with the students. I work with other media advisers and their staffs around the country to help them cultivate and develop their own business plan to produce a quality publication they can continue to build and be successful.
I live and breathe my job in scholastic journalism and live the media workshop life in the summer. When I am not working I can be found enjoying quality time with my husband, our five-year-old daughter and our two yellow labs.
